"30 years ago. May 1968. Struggles blossom around the world. Through
fiery roadblocks, grandiose marchings, strikes, clashes, midwife of
revolution brings to light an innovative overthraw from the inside of
existance. A thought is being announced, becomes a consciousness, upsets
"the bourgoise living rooms" and "the just sleep" of the masters. Europe's
fire-red air is reflected on the Black Continnent and glitters on
south-easth Asia. "The world on fire"!
"30 years after. May 1998. One may say that, from the '68 fire what has
remain is the ashes dusting a history bookshelf. The world is on fire. But
this time not due to overthraw sparks, but of the neo-liberalist squall!
Mocking May, M.A.I. spins its web around any right, any human freedom and
dignity. Unemployment, a permanent cloak of the poor whose number
increasingly grows. The immigrants, in the middle of a ringer of
anthropomorphous figures without memory and humanity, struggle inside and
outside of the "Fort Sengen" gates! Eight-hour is considered as a "rubber",
in order to shrink and fit in the White Bible. The struggles begin and end
outside the door of a ministry. Each struggle "wears" a blinder, so none of
them may meet with another. Forthcoming May First. The calendar says,
"Labour holiday". And the "May" begins and ends with one or more May First
marchings. "Strike, not Holiday", says an old pamphlet of a labour union.
"Maybe the enlivenment of even a spark of the MAY is enough to lighten the
dark tomorrow, not through the TV screens but from the inside of streets,
factories, schools themselves. To lighten our simple daily lives.".
