MAYDAY POLICE HARRASMENT IN STOCKHOLM
The Police and the news bureau TT went to attack against the libertarian
lefts traditional Mayday festivities in Stockholm. One hundred and fifty
riot police attacked the traditional pickled herring lunch at the
anarcho-punk café Kafé 44 on Tjärhovsgatan in the traditional workers
quarter of Södermalm. The police emptied the space of all people and
frisked everyone who had gathered to celebrate the Mayday, eat and
drink. The police and TT spread the rumour that the police acted upon
the anonymous tip that explosives were being stored in the space. The
continually lying spokesperson for Stockholms Police, Claes Cassel, was
quoted in the TT news release as saying ”Of course we suspect that the
explosives were to be used today.” What explosives is he talking about?
What was not mentioned in the TT release was that no explosives were
found in the police razzia. The entire episode was nothing more than a
simple question of police harassment against the libertarian left by the
Stockholms police. To entirely empty Kafé 44 during the traditional
Mayday celebrations is nothing more than a provocation of the most
extreme sorts. It is in addition quite interesting to observe how the
police can create a news sensation with nothing more than rumours of
supposed explosives in a space where libertarian socialists have
gathered. This, despite the apparent harrasment motivation. TTs ability
of critical thought seems to be, as usual, non existent.
