On August 14, an official statement announced the hacking of the French Public Finances Directorate (DGFIP), resulting in the theft of data belonging to 678,000 individuals and professionals. A few days later, the hacking of two other files was confirmed: the first concerning land registries, the second concerning inheritance records. This cyberattack has been described as "the most serious in our country's history." --- On August 14, an official statement announced the hacking of the French Public Finances Directorate (DGFIP), resulting in the theft of data belonging to 678,000 individuals and professionals. A predictable result of the ongoing weakening of public services. Certainly, IT projects are piling up, but solely to increase productivity and reduce staff. Cybersecurity, on the other hand, doesn't allow for staff reductions; the choice is clear.

The immediate consequences will likely be a surge in scams exploiting the contents of files. Then, the issue will undoubtedly fuel the debates of the upcoming presidential election. It doesn't take a fortune teller to predict that most candidates will advocate for privatization, replicating the well-established strategy of dismantling a public service so that, once it malfunctions, they can justify handing its mission over to capitalists.

While libertarians might welcome such an attack on the state, the reality is that, in a period where the far right is in a position of strength, this type of destabilization of a collective structure, even a state one, risks primarily serving individualistic rhetoric and further eroding trust in the collective.
