The Young Karl Marx tells the story of Marx's youth in the 1840s in 118
minutes. --- The Young Karl Marx tells the story of Marx's youth in the
1840s in 118 minutes. His meeting with Engels, the repressions and
exiles he suffered, the League of the Just, his personal setbacks, up to
the writing of the Communist Manifesto. We also encounter the anarchists
Bakunin and Proudhon, the latter having numerous exchanges with Marx,
making this film interesting for understanding the beginnings of the
conflicts between anarchists and Marxists, up to the First
International. The story ends just before the arrival of the Springtime
of the Peoples, opening onto this air of revolution that would haunt all
of Europe.
A must-see film for anyone interested in the history of the workers'
movement. To quote the film: "Philosophers have only interpreted the
world, while the goal is to change it."
