(en) France, OCL CA #360 - Verdict in the trial of the defendants of June 15, 2021 in Limoges (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sat, 20 Jun 2026 07:24:03 +0300

Since June 15, 2021, we have regularly followed the arrests of our comrades, the organization of their support, and the preparation and proceedings of their trial in Courant Alternatif. ---- Following the trial on March 19 and 20, we were quite optimistic about the outcome. On Friday, April 3, 2026, the Limoges court delivered its verdict in the June 15 case. The comrades were sentenced to terms far less severe than those requested by the prosecution. The two defendants were convicted: one to a three-year suspended sentence, the other to a two-year suspended sentence. They are also prohibited from associating with each other for three years. The judgment on civil damages has been postponed until September 2.

The support committee and the defendants used this trial as a platform against digital technology, drawing several hundred people. The arguments presented by witnesses and the substantive debates captivated the court, the public, and the press alike.
The support committee for the defendants believes that these convictions reflect the justice system's consideration of two essential elements:

- first, a recognition of the severity of the nearly five years of pre-trial supervision, which constituted a veritable "sentence before the sentence" for the defendants, and which it seemed only fair not to impose a significantly harsher penalty.

- second, the signal of a breakthrough, so necessary and urgent, in the public debate on the main issue raised by this trial: the questioning of the imposed digital onslaught, at work in our societies for several decades, a source of colossal damage to the environment and human societies.

It was necessary to wait 20 days to ensure that the public prosecutor's office and the Attorney General would not appeal the judges' decision. We can now rest assured; there is no appeal.

This outcome, the most positive possible for this type of action, can be attributed in part to the "judicial lottery," which means that one can have the good fortune of encountering magistrates (in this case, the judge of freedoms and detention at the beginning of the case, the presiding judge during the trial) who are more receptive than others.

Above all, it must be attributed to the tenacity of the support committee and the lawyers who, in agreement with the defendants, succeeded in building and imposing a debate focused on the substance of the case rather than on the facts. The defendants and the support committee warmly thank the witnesses as well as everyone from all networks who provided moral, financial, and in-person support.
