(en) France, OCL: Against the Echassières mine - STOP MINES 03: FOR A RIVER DESCENT ON THE SIOULE RIVER ON JUNE 21, 2026! (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 12 Jun 2026 08:31:09 +0300

On June 21st, we invite you to join Stop Mines 03 and your best banners as we march down the Sioule River to continue putting pressure on Imerys and its mining project, slated to be built in the town of Echassières (03) by 2030. --- The fight against the Echassières lithium mine continues after last summer's camp: following the opposition and demonstration organized against President Macron's visit to the mining project site and to Montluçon on April 22nd, the occupation of the future ore processing plant site in Saint-Victor on May 23rd, the revelations about the proven and potential radioactivity of the site and its surroundings should the project go ahead, and the scathing report from the Environmental Authority last December, Stop Mines 03 is now mobilizing around the project's impact on the water.

The millions of cubic meters of water needed for the project will indeed be largely drawn from this river, whose course is already significantly impacted by the effects of climate change and the water withdrawals necessary for local agriculture. As with many industrial projects, however much they are labeled "energy transition" projects, it is the waterways (Sioule, Bouble, Cher) that will be the first to suffer from the capitalist system's inability to break free from its productivist logic and its destruction of the resources it fundamentally needs.

Another piece of news from last January: it's official, the State is working hand in hand with the industrial company with numerous scandals across France and the world (see the damage caused by Imerys in Brittany) since it has become a minority shareholder in the project. For us, there's no doubt: Imerys is failing to convince other private investors of the profitability (since that's all they understand) of its project, and the State is stepping in to provide unexpected support, justified solely by its strategic, political, and military interests. The Emili project now hangs by a thread, dependent on the financial backing of a State that, ironically, laments its inability to fund even the most fundamental sectors, such as public services...

So, on June 21st, let's seize the opportunity to leave Imerys and the State in the lurch. Meet at 2 PM at the Menat Bridge, at the location known as Les Tarteaux.

Boarding is scheduled for 3 PM. Spread the word!

All aboard!
