(en) France, Monde Libertaire - Against the Eviction of Baranoux (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Mon, 6 Apr 2026 08:56:46 +0300

Community spaces in Paris are shrinking rapidly. ---- We have already discussed the threat of eviction hanging over Baranoux in the online edition of Le Monde libertaire. A quick reminder: Baranoux is a community bar, a solidarity kitchen, and a self-managed climate emergency center run by volunteers. Located a stone's throw from Place des Fêtes, it involves thousands of people: members, volunteers, local residents, associations, collectives... ---- In addition to its premises, a bar in the building's courtyard makes Baranoux a welcoming, intergenerational space for socializing, allowing citizens to exchange ideas, learn, train, and build solidarity in an increasingly hostile world. This is not sitting well with some residents who say they are bothered by the noise of conversations and laughter under their windows, despite the fact that the courtyard is quiet after 10:00 PM.

As a result, the building owner has asked the tenant, VOLUMES, which houses Baranoux, to evict them in exchange for a 10% rent reduction.

Faced with this threat, Baranoux has launched a petition and a fundraising campaign (maintenant-le-mouvement.org), and organized a support day last Saturday (February 28th) at its premises. It was a great success: by 6:00 PM, hundreds of people had gathered to enjoy a drink or a meal and listen to volunteers explain the situation. Of note was the presence of François Dagnaud, mayor of the 19th arrondissement, who reiterated the city's financial contribution to the creation of the refreshment stand and made a firm commitment to find Baranoux an equivalent space in the same arrondissement should it be evicted. This is a developing story.

In the meantime, you can visit Baranoux from Wednesday onwards for a drink or a meal at very affordable prices. It's a way to support a space that promotes solidarity, environmental responsibility, and social justice.

Our address is:
Baranoux
