Three years after the biggest railway tragedy in the country's history,
resulting in 57 deaths, almost nothing has changed. It was a
state-capitalist crime, as the sale of public property by the state to
capitalists and the devaluation of safety measures were methodically and
planned. The subsequent cover-up attempt is characteristic of the
government's mentality.
The culprits for the crime are both the political personnel who
implemented the specific policies and the companies that were involved
in every way in this privatization process. Railway workers had
repeatedly denounced the safety deficiencies through their trade union
bodies.
Every day we experience the devaluation of our lives, as the recent
problem with the damage to air transport showed, and a similar accident
with airplanes was avoided only through the efforts of the workers. No
measure is taken unless it is first weighed against profit.
A year ago, huge protest rallies took place throughout the country with
the main demand being justice. For a few days, society understood its
power and frightened the government, but unfortunately there was no
tangible result. It is imperative that we continue the struggle where we
left off.
Either we accept that our lives count less than the profits of capital -
both its "legal" and illegal activities - or we will fight. The need to
organize and demand the obvious is greater than ever. Self-organized,
without illusions about electoral saviors, in every workplace and social
field, all working men and women should fight for the overthrow of this
rotten system that generates only profits for the few and misery and
death for the many. Which will not hesitate to start new wars in its
attempt to overcome yet another structural crisis. For a society
organized on other bases, those of freedom, equality and solidarity.
