On August 2, 2025, the No MUOS demonstration took place in Contrada 
Ulmo, starting from the No MUOS Presidium and arriving at the US 
military base. The event was preceded, the evening before, by the 
screening of the film Valentina and the MUOStri in Piazza Vittorio 
Emanuele in Niscemi. What we faced on Saturday clearly demonstrated the 
level of militarization in Contrada Ulmo. Despite formal notification to 
the Police Headquarters and compliance with the instructions received, 
we found ourselves faced with unprecedented restrictions:

* A total ban on vehicle transit along the road from State Road 10 to 
the Presidium, with the sole exception of residents.

* Access was denied even to the Movement's vehicles, which had been duly 
registered and were needed to deliver sound systems, water, materials to 
set up shaded areas, and people with specific needs.

* Checkpoints, mass identification, and searches of backpacks and bags, 
repeatedly along the route.

Despite the impact of these checks, the participants' determination did 
not waver: the assembly initially scheduled for the early 
afternoon-which was cancelled due to the delays imposed by the 
exasperating police presence-was rescheduled for the end of the march.

The demonstration unfolded calmly and with determination. The speeches 
and slogans included:

* Denouncing the genocide in Palestine;

* Opposition to the European and NATO rearmament plan;

* Recalling the devastating fire in the Sughereta di Niscemi;

* Condemning the US commander's visit to the Municipality of Niscemi, 
confirming the area's subordination to US military interests.

Never in fifteen years of struggle had Contrada Ulmo seen such a level 
of control. It's clear that this is linked to the current political 
climate and the new "security decree": as we have always said, external 
and internal war go hand in hand.

We thank:

* Those present at the film screening, director Francesca Scalisi, 
Valentina, and the Terranova family;

* Those who came from far away and those who resisted the controls;

* The mayors and city councilors present;

* The comrades who made the organization possible.

Returning to MUOS means reaffirming that we will not resign ourselves to 
living with an instrument of war in Ukraine, Palestine, and the Middle 
East. It means remembering that a Sicily without MUOS and without 
Sigonella is possible.

In this area, the freedoms of movement and freedom of expression, 
guaranteed by the Constitution, are not fully enforceable rights: every 
day they become more difficult, hindered, and restricted by controls and 
bans.

As we have always said: more than numbers, determination is what counts. 
We've been there, we are there, and we'll be there.
