(en) France, OCL-Lamouette Enragee: Local Press and the Police Lobby "You've got me, I've got you..." (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

To varying degrees, and for obvious reasons(1), the closeness of the
press and media to the police force is a long-established fact. The
spotlight now focused on the television programs and magazine columns of
tycoon Bolloré should not blind us, as this partnership is practiced
with comparable zeal within the public information service, so dear to
the heart of the left. "Prefecture journalism" is not just a phrase. A
local press clipping reminds us of this by opening its columns with the
rally organized a few days ago in front of the Boulogne-sur-Mer police
station by the Alliance police union, in support of their colleague
accused by the Nanterre prosecutor's office of the murder of Nahel Merzouk.
The article in question is itself a model of its kind. Euphemism borders
on duplicity on every line. An unarmed young man was not shot dead; he
"was incapacitated by a police officer's gunfire during a traffic stop"
(2). The ensuing social uprising, spontaneous, radical, and
uncontrollable, is reduced to "protest clashes" (3)... The journalist's
ethical balance, reduced to a balancing act, forces everyone to face
their responsibilities: "the filmed scene shows the police officer
firing at point-blank range," but Nahel "was driving a car without a
license." Just like far-right MP Christine Engrand, who was stopped on
the A16 in September 2024 during a traffic stop, without being shot in
the chest. Surprising, isn't it?
As for Alliance, this corporate lobby for the most reactionary political
groups, whose secretary general proclaimed he was "fed up with scum,
pests, young people of foreign origin"(4), despite the muddled language
of its delegate transcribed in the newspaper's columns, its intention
remains clear: "It's part of the apprehension of colleagues, to think
(!), perhaps think too much (!) before carrying out a firefight, which
is always legitimized..."
55 deaths in 2024, the worst police death toll in over 50 years
The websites Désarmons-les and Anti-média(5) have compiled a tally and
map of the number of people who have died over time at the hands of the
National and Republican Police. This inventory reveals an uninterrupted
increase in the number of victims over the past twenty-five years. The
year 2024 saw a record high of 55 deaths, or more than one per week. We
have to go back to 1967 in Guadeloupe, when the gendarmes killed between
80 and 200 workers during strikes following a racist attack, to achieve
and surpass this achievement...
It seems clear that the work carried out by Désarmons-les and
Anti-média, with their inherent limitations(6), has no chance of being
undertaken by any bourgeois media outlet, which is reason enough to
learn from it and support them.
Boulogne-sur-mer, 03/15/2025
To assert that the press and mass media are in the hands of those who
hold economic and... political power is undeniably a cliché. In the age
of flux and networks, where images revolve in a constant loop, the
journalist parodies, he does not inform.
Nahel Affair: Gathering at the police station. In: La semaine dans le
Boulonnais, March 12, 2025.
The explanation for this must obviously be found in the educational
negligence of parents in working-class communities, as the Masonite
clique was keen to insist at the time of the events.

"This figure of 55 deaths per year, noted in press articles, subject to
other cases that have slipped under the radar..." Ibid.
