The society we live in has one of its strengths in consumption.
Consumerism is an alienating power and at the same time an economic
mechanism for the reproduction of capital. ---- We oppose capitalist
consumerism with the values of taking care of ourselves and others, of
international collaboration between communities, territories, cultures
and histories. We oppose the alienation of capitalism with the awareness
of our true needs as human beings who challenge the propaganda of the
futile, of appearance and individualism. We can all stimulate social
change by leveraging the power we have in making anti-consumerist
choices, activating boycott campaigns, promoting and practicing such
life choices as a form of fight.
It is not easy to implement radical life choices, one often risks
isolating oneself from the social context and territories; on the
contrary, non-radical life choices run the risk of being digested and
adopted by those who ask for a clean capitalism, made of organic, green,
zero km and so much exploitation of man by man, woman and the environment.
Finding an intermediate point of placement becomes a difficult but
necessary task; and in this case it is important to favor a class
choice, removing alternative life choices from the bourgeois sirens and
their false nonconformism functional to the strengthening of the system.
It is not an easy bet, but it must be attempted.
Self-managed realities, life and work practices freed as much as
possible from capitalist slavery can connect in alternative networks
built from below to promote change, starting from the individual lives
of those who are personally involved and in close contact with those who
resist (sometimes with difficulty sometimes successfully) this society
of privilege and war.
We will discuss and compare this and more in Ragusa on Saturday 5
October 2024, at the meeting promoted by the Sicilian Anarchist
Federation, at the Società dei Libertari, in via Garibaldi 2 A, starting
at 4 pm.
