ALOHA Cetacean Allies:::
************************
Enclosed this letter, which was my adaptation of one sent out by the
Seattle
Area Business Council, to the DLNR head here in Hawai'i, which has the
last
decisive endorsement for the U.S. military "testing" on pregnant and
nursing
whales. Unfortunately, even if Mr. Wilson refuses to give a permit,
the Feds
can go ahead and bypass the State of Hawai'i environmental protection.
Keep in
mind that these are the same people who, up until a few years ago,
were bombing
the hell out of sacred islands in the Hawaiian archipelago...just
"testing" of
course.
Please use this letter as a model for your own....and forwrd this
information
ASAP...get this back to Mike Wilson and the DLNR in the next couple
days, 24 hrs
if poss. The U.S. Military definitely needs a few good yanks on their
chain....
If we can't protect birthing, endangered, mother whales, who in this
blessed
world can we protect???

To:
Mr Mike Wilson, State of Hawaii, Chairman of DLNR
I understand that the issuance of a permit by the State of Hawaii
Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), could currently
unleash a potentially deadly threat to our endangered Humpback whales.
If this is the case I protest the issuance of this permit for testing
in Hawai'i without the full and proper public review of possible
consequences to State wild natural resouces.
I currently reside on the Big Island of Hawai'i, and often can be
found enjoying the company of dolphins off our coast. For you to give
the go-ahead to these military operatives, without "full disclosure",
given their history of bombing and destruction here in Hawai'i Nei,
is a crime in itself. It is far past time that we set our limits on
"military expansion"... who will speak for the birthing whales?
You, the only one left, as they aren't given a voice in the process.
If an alien force came into one of our maternity hospitals and
decided, unilaterally, to begin blasting Rock & Roll, or construction
sounds, at an increasingly loud volume, until some of the mothers
and babies were forced to flee, would you consider this a
violation? Keep in mind that Cetaceans are extremely sensitive to
sound and vibration... their "melons" are many 1000's of times more
developed than ours...
My understanding of the background:
The Navy wants immunity from all deaths and/or injury they may
produce by testing LFA Sonar. Only Mr Wilson of the DLNR can give
this exemption. Equipment tests consist of blasting LFA Sonar sound
at up to 230db with-in an area where whales and other marine life
abound.
At this time of year, Feb 25th, this would specifically bombard
birthing mothers and singing adult Humpback whales with extremely
high decible sound which could lead to death through unknown and
very possibly permanent biological damage to these valuable mammals
who have a lifelong dependence on their sense of hearing to survive.
Mr. Wilson before considering the issuance of a permit from the
State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR),
I urge you to make the prudent and reasonable decision, given the
wide number of unknown variables including biological, behavioural,
seasonal, and environmental to have a public determination by
scientifically trained and interested parties take place to
review thier assessments on the possible methods and usefulness of
any data gathered from the target entities including our endangered
Humpback whales.
As a member of the Hawai'i Island community, and as a spokesperson
for the Cetacean beings, who cannot represent themselves in this
process, I strongly urge you to turn the tide of military incursion
into our oceans here and now... Your grandchildren will either thank
you, or condemn you...history will tell a far different tale than the
one you read in the papers today! You have the power to change the
course of humankind with your pen, today, right here.
Thank You for your Attention in this matter,
Bryan Evans
