Uncle Sam the Greedy Grinch :::: Bombs vs. Bread 2000
 ******************************************************

If the world were a global village of 100 people, one third of them
would be of moderate income or richer, and two thirds of them would be
poor.

Of the 100 residents, 47 would be unable to read, and only one
would have a college education. More than 35 would be suffering from
hunger and
malnutrition. At least half would be homeless or living in substandard
housing.

Of the 100 villagers, 6 of them would be Americans. These 6
Americans
would claim over a third of the village's entire income, and the other
94
villagers would subsist on the remaining two thirds.

How could these wealthy 6 Americans live in peace with their
neighbors?
Surely they would be driven to arm themselves against the other 94......
perhaps even to invest, as Americans do, as much per person on military
"defense" as twice the per-capita income of two-thirds of the village.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us 'Universe', a
part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts
and feelings as something seperated from the rest---a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our
personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

"Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening
our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole
nature in its beauty."

                                Albert Einstein

"People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge
waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass
of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by
themselves without wondering."

"It was a beautiful, harmonious, peaceful-looking planet, blue with
white clouds, and one that gave you a deep sense.......of home, of
being, of identity.
It is what I prefer to call instant global consciousness."

                                Astronaut Edgar Mitchell

The practice of benefiting others is the total truth, thus it
liberates self and other, far and wide.

To realize this is to serve friend and enemy equally, and to see
that even grasses and trees, wind and water, naturally reflect this
sacred activity.

                                  Master Dogen
