Mercoledì 18 gennaio 2023 ad Atlanta la polizia ha sparato e ucciso l'attivista 
Manuel "Tortuguita" Teran, che stava occupando la foresta di Weelaunee per 
opporsi alla sua distruzione e alla costruzione del più grande centro di 
addestramento privato per la polizia americana. Di recente abbiamo pubblicato due 
interviste con i partecipanti al movimento "Defend The Atlanta Forest - Stop Cop 
City", sono ancora disponibili qua e là. All'inizio di gennaio, sei manifestanti 
sono stati arrestati e processati per terrorismo, che molti hanno interpretato 
come il segno di un'escalation repressiva senza precedenti contro un movimento 
ecologista e popolare. Questo 18 gennaio, un raid guidato da decine di poliziotti 
armati ha invaso la foresta per cacciare gli occupanti, durante l'operazione 
Manuel Teran che dormiva in una tenda è stato ucciso a colpi di arma da fuoco.
