(en) anarkismo.net: In the face of femicides and the advance of sexist violence, the feminist struggle is one of those below. It is time to occupy the streets. by Anarchist Federation of Rosario - FAR (fr, it, pt) [machine translation]

In recent days, in the midst of an economic and social crisis that overwhelms the oppressed sectors on a daily basis, we are witnessing four femicides in just 48 hours that highlight the very serious situation to which women are exposed daily. ---- We are talking about the most extreme form of gender violence, which ends with the life of a woman every 26 hours in our country. ---- In most cases, women die at the hands of men known to the victims, in general couples or former partners. ---- Now, there are two separate facts the context of crisis with these femicides that go on to swell the long list. In this sense, the women's movement does not stop denouncing the lack - and sub-execution - of the budget destined to the prevention and attention of cases of gender-based violence.

At the same time, as we said in previous analyzes, poverty, inequality, clientelism and the lack of self-managed political participation of the excluded sectors has led to the growth of the influence of evangelism and the Catholic Church in the popular neighborhoods and in The political scene. This not only translates into reactionary speeches in the face of acts of gender-based violence but also constantly hinders access to sexual and reproductive rights, to comprehensive sexuality education in schools and systematically demonizes the feminist movement in our country.

Finally, the electoral context has exposed the utilitarianism that institutionalist political parties make of the issue. The candidates speak little about the legalization of abortion, there are few proposals on how to address the problem of discrimination and sexist violence. The demobilization policy that we see on the part of these parties, directly or by omission, in order to get more votes, also affects the feminist struggle.

These four femicides have generated an alert that has jumped to the media, but little is said about these women being from below (nurse, private house employees and student). Little is said that poverty and patriarchal violence are related, that the poorest households are in charge of women, that it is the poor women who have the most difficult time when they can leave the circle of violence due to lack of resources. On the contrary, the media mix these cases with those of the show business like Mariana Nannis's - even to the point of banalizing the problem. Not only is the serious situation frivolized, but femicides are exposed as entertainment and put on the same level completely different realities.

It is a complex context that challenges us when positioning ourselves in such an onslaught against those below. However, the strategy remains the same to encourage grassroots organizations with a true participation of women in them, being on the street demonstrating the strength we can have and which was evidenced last year in the fight for the legalization of abortion and fundamentally to encourage and not lose sight of the class perspective that the feminist struggle requires to be truly transformative of the system of domination.

* The streets are ours!
Up those who fight! *
