Kobani prison incidents ---- In mid September, after and SDF member was
killed outside of Qamishlo, protests demanding revenges spread over
north east Syria. Several men were arrested by General Security (GS)
forces. Arrested Kurdish men were brought to Kobane prison and soon GS
stormed the prison aiming to bring them to Aleppo prison. Those in
prison resisted the actions of GS and set fire to prevent being
transferred to Aleppo prison, resulting in 7 Kurdish men dying in the
fire and at least 3 more following heavy injuries from the fire. These
incidents created a lot of tensions, with GS reinforcements prevented to
enter Kobane and tensions and calls for revenge spreading over social
networks.
Mobilizations of Arab tribes
Following the tensions from the incidents of Kobane prison, some Arab
tribes circulated videos on social media calling for attacking Kurdish
held areas. In some of these videos armed men call for attacks and
massacres against kurdish population. In areas like the Ghweiran
neighborhood in Hassakah this calls are being coordinated with GS forces
that are using this mobilizations to deploy forces loyal to the central
government in certain Arab majority regions of north east Syria.
Kurdish language mobilizations
Over this month of September, many educations centers held protests and
events calling for defense of Kurdish language after the Damascus
administration called for all education to be held in Arabic with few
hours of Kurdish language added to the education curriculum. Kurdish
education institutions demand that all education can be held in Kurdish
as it has been done for over a decade.
Tensions with hezbollah
Forces of GS intensified raids in southern Syria against Hezbollah
linked militias and smugglers. Official negotiations between Syrian
government and Hezbollah were held in Turkey, with Turkish state
officials mediating between both forces aiming to reduce tensions and
prevent cross-border operations in Lebanon.
Israel operations in the south
Israel intensified raids and operations around the extended buffer zone
in southern Syria. In official declarations Israel declared their
intentions to remain in their occupied regions in mount Heremon and
other newly occupied regions of southern Syria.
KCK criticis on Rojava
In different interviews with Cemil Bayik and later Bese Hozat, both
expressed critical opinions on the ongoing integration process. Both
representatives criticized the concessions that the Self Administration
made to the Damascus government, having also a critical stance for the
newly accepted positions of Mazlum Abdi and Ilham Ahmed in the Syrian
State institutions, stating that it was a mistake to accept such positions.
Tensions in Rojhilat
IRGC intensified drone attacks against Kurdish positions in Iraqi
Kurdistan as well as on Kurdish camps inside the borders of Iran. PJAK
also announced at least two revenge operations targeting IRGC spies who
collaborated with the assassination of Kurdish militants and Kurdish
welatparez families in Rojhilat.Evaluation
