(en) France, UCL AL #375 - Spotlight - RN Congress: For a united and lasting anti-fascist response (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sat, 31 Oct 2026 07:58:59 +0200

Confronting the *Rassemblement National* (RN) and the rise of the far right: *No Pasarán!* Join us on Saturday, October 24, in Orléans-coinciding with the RN congress-for a major national anti-fascist demonstration. ---- The 19th RN congress is taking place six months before the presidential election in the city governed by the reactionary Serge Grouard. Delegates from the far-right party will gather at the CO'Met cultural complex on the southern edge of town, while anti-fascists will occupy the city center on Saturday and attempt to approach the congress venue on Sunday-all against the backdrop of the AfD's recent victory in Saxony-Anhalt.

A broad-based mobilization
On Saturday the 24th, a large, united demonstration will begin at 10:30 AM at the cathedral, where the *Union Communiste Libertaire* will form a contingent. The CGT union has taken a leading role in the day's mobilization, organizing chartered buses and announcing the attendance of Sophie Binet. Electoral parties are also mobilizing, underscoring the importance of a united anti-capitalist contingent to highlight the need for a fundamental political break. Afterward, from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM, an anti-fascist "village" will be set up at the Campo Santo, featuring speeches, participatory workshops, round-table discussions, and concerts. This well-oiled operation is nonetheless under pressure from the staunchly right-wing former Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior-who became Prefect of Loiret on May 18, 2026, and declared in the local paper *La Rep'*: "If it's the Wild West, I'll be the super-sheriff." Indeed, a few months after the disruption of the AfD congress in Erfurt, the "Ciao Fachos" coordination group[1]-alongside a local coalition of organizations-decided that Sunday the 25th would mark both the beginning and the end of the presidential campaign for the RN and its candidate (who might well be wearing an electronic monitoring tag by then). It is more likely, however, to mark the start of a sustained anti-fascist counter-offensive, given the massive police presence being planned-especially since the bulk of the mobilization is now concentrated on the long, packed schedule of the preceding Saturday. That said, the UCL will be present on both days.

The stakes of united action
The launch of the presidential campaign is driving an acceleration and intensification of the political and media battle. This is why united action is more necessary than ever to confront the steamroller of bourgeois democracy. On the trade union front, it is essential to continue developing VISA (*Vigilance et initiatives syndicales antifascistes*-Vigilance and Anti-Fascist Union Initiatives, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary)[2], particularly by establishing new departmental collectives. Furthermore, strengthening thematic committees dedicated to fighting the far right within social-transformation-oriented unions must be an absolute priority. Finally, active involvement in anti-racist and anti-fascist organizations and collectives helps round out the vital united front against the far right, ensuring a continued presence on the ground beyond the long election cycle-regardless of the outcome of the presidential and legislative elections.
