(en) Italy, FDCA, Cantiere #44 - Iran: War, Regime Crisis, and Revolutionary Perspectives - Iranian Confederation of Labor - Abroad (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The following statement from the Iranian Confederation of Labor - Abroad
(ILC, based in Berlin) addresses a situation of extreme instability,
marked by war and the internal crisis of the Iranian regime. The text
offers a clear interpretation: a rejection of war and imperial
interference, but at the same time no defense of the Islamic Republic,
which is held directly responsible for the repression and conflict. At
the heart of the statement is the need for an autonomous organization of
society - workers, women, youth - as the only way to avoid both the
restoration of power under new forms and a "controlled transition" from
above.
This contribution fits into the international debate on the
possibilities of revolutionary transformation in contexts of war and
state crisis.
Confederation Statement on the Ongoing War and the Need for
Revolutionary Action
March 1, 2026
The assassination of Ali Khamenei and several leaders of the
Revolutionary Guards and the ruling power constitutes a momentous event
in Iranian history. It deals a decisive blow to the very heart of the
repressive apparatus and the foundations of the Islamic Republic. The
death of the man who, for decades, embodied violence, oppression,
poverty, warmongering, and the law of the strongest was, for millions of
Iranians, a moment of liberation, an outlet for long-repressed anger,
and an immense joy. The people's presence in the streets and the social
reactions testify to the depth of hatred that the Islamic Republic has
ingrained in Iranian society through years of crimes and massacres.
This joy is not that of war. It is not the joy of bombings and the
deaths of children. It is not the joy of intervention by foreign powers.
This joy is seeing the disappearance of the monster that, just two
months ago, in January, killed tens of thousands of people with bullets
and repression, plunging society into an ocean of pain and rage. The
people rejoicing today are the same people who yesterday were crushed
under truncheons, bullets, and bars.
However, the truth must be told bluntly: this blow to the head of the
state occurred in the midst of a war, imposed from above and without the
consent of the people. A war that threatens human lives, plunges cities
into bloody chaos, and seeks to paralyze society under the yoke of fear
and destruction. The United States and Israel, through their military
attacks, are directly implicated in this conflict and must be condemned
unreservedly. No "preventive" or "defensive" discourse can justify these
massacres.
But it must also be emphasized: the Islamic Republic and the Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps are not victims of this war, but rather its
main architects. The government that, for years, exploited society for
its military and nuclear projects is now paying the price, collapsing
from within. Khamenei's death does not mean the end of the crisis, but
it clearly demonstrates that this government is no longer capable of
maintaining its former authority. A structure whose leader has been
removed, engaged in a war, and confronted by a society rife with anger
and hatred, has entered a phase of irreversible instability.
At the same time, we must be aware that a vacuum at the top of power
does not necessarily imply the realization of the popular will. It is
precisely in moments like these that plans to control society are put
into action: "controlled transitions," reshuffles, and the imposition of
alternatives imposed from above, designed to seize control of the
revolution and strip the people of their decision-making power. Secret
agreements, the reproduction of the same structure under a new guise, or
the imposition of puppet governments under the guise of "stability" and
"transition" are all attempts to control the revolution and prevent the
direct expression of the popular will. These scenarios do not mean the
end of the Islamic Republic, but rather the perpetuation of the same
repressive order in another form.
The only force capable of countering this trend is an independent,
national, and popular organization within society.
At a time like this, the primary issue for society is not simply
"opposing the war." It is about consciously exploiting the vacuum
created to advance the revolutionary overthrow. The war aims to
terrorize society and suspend the revolution; the people's response must
be to rebuild and organize their social power in the very heart of this
crisis.
