(en) Greese, APO, Land & Freedom -[Thessaloniki]Microphone rally against gender-based violence, trafficking rings and rape (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Saturday 7/02, 13:00 Hagia Sophia with Ermou -- GENDER VIOLENCE IS A
REGIME AS LONG AS THE STATE AND CAPITALISM EXIST ---- In December 2025,
two cases of extreme gender-based patriarchal violence, abuse, rape and
human trafficking were made public in Thessaloniki. The first case
concerns the rape and videotaping of a minor from the Philippines, while
the second concerns the "disruption" of a trafficking ring that
trafficked women from Latin American countries, from Colombia, Brazil,
Venezuela and Paraguay, confirming once again that sexual exploitation
is an organic part of social and economic normality.
These cases cannot be seen as separate from a long chain of incidents of
gender-based violence that have been revealed in recent years and which
reflect the increasingly harsh attack that women, especially those
belonging to the lower social strata, are receiving with the onslaught
of modern totalitarianism and the almost complete disintegration of
societies. The rape and trafficking of the 12-year-old by Kolonos, the
abuse and deportation of E. from Ilioupoli by cop Bouyoukos, as well as
the rape of the 19-year-old inside the A.T. Omonia by Delta cops are not
just crimes, but they brutally depict the way in which state
institutions, the police and the judiciary not only fail to protect
victims, but are often directly or indirectly involved in violence,
either through cover-ups, impunity, or through the involvement of
representatives in cases of rape, gender-based abuse and trafficking rings.
It is thus clear for the umpteenth time that gender-based violence
cannot be understood as an exception or a deviation from the functioning
of the system - on the contrary, it is a structural element of the state
and capitalism, which are based on the maintenance of hierarchies of
gender, age, race and class, in order to ensure the reproduction of
relations of power and exploitation. Patriarchy functions as a mechanism
of discipline and control, determining which bodies are considered
expendable and which voices are condemned to silence.
It is no coincidence that those most affected by gender-based violence
belong to the most vulnerable social groups. Children, migrants,
refugees, undocumented women, the poor and socially excluded are in
positions where dependency, precariousness and lack of social support
make violence easier, more invisible and often unpunished. Childhood,
migration and economic need are social conditions produced and
reproduced by the system itself, in order to create bodies available for
control, exploitation and abuse.
Trafficking, in particular, cannot be detached from the structures of
the capitalist economy, as it presupposes the existence of borders,
poverty, gender inequalities and coercion, in order to transform human
life into a commodity and the need for survival into a field of profit.
Sexual exploitation is but one of the most violent expressions of a
system founded on inequality and hierarchy.
At the same time, it is obvious that any part of society that struggles
against the state mechanisms and the system that dominates and nourishes
the patriarchy, receives extreme and brutal violence from the state's
minions with shocking examples, the beating of female activists at a
mass march in defense of Palestine in Athens, the recent examples of
unjustified and violent arrests in Thessaloniki after the anti-fascist
rally on 31/01/2026 and many more examples that demonstrate the
excessive repression that female activists suffer.
In the face of this condition, we refuse to remain silent, we refuse to
accept the narrative of the state and justice, when the state structures
themselves prove to be constantly complicit! In a world that insists on
baptizing violence as "deviation", we know that violence against women
is an organic rule of power and we choose to stand on the side of the
victims, recognizing that only through collective, self-organized and
anti-state struggles can patriarchal and capitalist power be truly
challenged.
