(en) Germany, Die Platform: Rojava faces a general attack: Mobilizations in support of the revolution! (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The autonomous administration of Northeast Syria in Rojava is facing an
existential threat. At the time of this statement, it controls only the
cantons of Kobanî and Hesêkê, which are themselves under siege. The
territories liberated from Daesh by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)
are once again under the control of jihadist militias allied with the
Syrian government. ---- For 13 years, the autonomous administration in
Northeast Syria has been building a genuine people's democracy by
resisting the ethnic division imposed by the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
This revolution is also, and above all, a women's revolution: Their
self-organization and self-defense have brought about profound changes
in the societies of Northeast Syria.
This revolutionary experiment has been the subject of a low-intensity
war waged by the Turkish state for several years. The Turkish state is
determined to destroy Kurdish autonomy and its struggle for national
liberation. Despite drone assassinations of leaders and activists, the
destruction of vital infrastructure, and the harassment of the
population by pro-Turkish militias of the Syrian National Army (SNA),
the revolution continues. Erdogan, prepared to do anything to control
Syria and destroy this political project, which directly threatens his
own imperialist ambitions, did not hesitate to support Syrian jihadist
groups, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). HTS succeeded in seizing
power in December 2024 and overthrowing dictator Bashar al-Assad. They
formed a government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu
Mohammed al-Joulani when he was the leader of the al-Nusra Front in
Syria, which is affiliated with al-Qaeda.
Today, the revolution is more endangered than ever because of the
government formed by HTS. Attempts at negotiation between the autonomous
administration and this new government have failed. Why? The first
reason is simple. The new government's political project is the
antithesis of the federalist model of autonomous administration; it aims
for a return to a centralized Arab state ruled from Damascus and subject
to reactionary laws. The second reason lies in the government's origins.
It owes everything to Turkey, which protected, trained, and equipped it,
and continues to support it. Erdogan primarily wants to get rid of the
autonomous administration. At the same time, the United States is also
working to control the Middle East by dividing it between its allies
Turkey and Israel and ensuring a stable country with which to "do
business." In December, Al-Sharaa decided to sign an agreement that
makes far-reaching concessions to Israel, thus clearly delineating the
spheres of influence of the two imperialist regional powers in Syria:
the south for Israel and the north for Turkey. Equipped, trained,
informed, and with Turkish air support and US backing, the Syrian
government first launched an attack on the autonomous districts of
Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah in Aleppo, then on the entire administration.
The Al-Sharaa government manipulates information by portraying
democratic forces as the aggressors. It is the task of internationalist
activists to restore the truth. The SDF have repeatedly agreed to
ceasefire agreements, but none have been honored. Similarly, Al-Sharaa
presents its government as a stabilizing force by claiming to have taken
control of the Daesh camps in northeastern Syria, while the SDF
allegedly facilitated the escape of prisoners. On the contrary, the SDF
defended these camps against government-allied jihadist militias,
thereby endangering themselves.
American imperialism, which seeks to reshape the world at the expense of
the population, is not alone in its actions. European governments also
support the reactionary and authoritarian Syrian regime. There are two
reasons for this: to do business with a country with a stable (i.e.,
centralized) regime and to expel Syrian exiles and refugees from Europe
as quickly as possible. The European Union has thus provided more than
EUR600 million, even though the new Syrian state and its militias have
committed massive femicides and ethnic cleansing against Druze,
Alawites, and Kurds in Aleppo. As we have seen in Palestine, the Middle
East is a playing field for Western powers acting in their own
self-interest. Only popular pressure, as seen in 2019, can break the
complicity that allows this war and these massacres to continue. In
these turbulent times, the Kurdish people are once again teaching us a
lesson in courage through their mobilization.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has called
for a general mobilization. The population is determined to resist, and
Kurds are gathering at the borders of Rojava and Bakur (Turkish
Kurdistan), where the Turkish army is using live ammunition to prevent
thousands of people from crossing the border to help their sisters and
brothers in Rojava. At this crucial moment, international mobilization
is of paramount importance. It is up to us to act and demand justice and
reparations for all the crimes committed by the Turkish state under
Erdogan and the Syrian government. We must demand the right to
self-governance and self-defense for the people and women of Syria. Let
us fight in Europe to ensure that arms manufacturers cease supplying
weapons to Turkey, which is the second-largest military power in
northern Syria after the United States. We call for mobilization
everywhere to ensure the victory of the revolution of the peoples and
women of Syria and Kurdistan!
