OCTAVIO ALBEROLA SURIÑACH, b: Alaior, Menorca, Spain, March 4, 1928; d: Perpignan, France, July 24, 2025 ---- With the death of Octavio Alberola at the age of 97, an entire section of the anti-Franco struggle has passed away. He was one of the last representatives of that generation of Spanish anarchists in exile in France who fought tirelessly against both Franco and capitalism. His life of activism is summarized in the Biographical Dictionary of the Libertarian Movement (Maitron); you can easily refer to it. In the meantime, here is the press release sent from Spain by the Salvador Seguí Foundation. ---- French translation by Ramón Pino. ---- Our companion Octavio has left us. ---- An anarcho-syndicalist activist and tireless fighter with the CNT's Internal Defense against Franco. He participated in the creation in 1999 of the Group for the Revision of the Granado-Delgado Trial, to bring justice to the memory of these two comrades murdered by Franco's regime.

We met him in Paris in the 1990s when we visited the exiled comrades of the CNT. We subsequently met him on several occasions at his home, with his partner Ariane Gransac.

We welcomed him to Valencia when he came to participate in the Libertarian Days of the Spanish CGT on two occasions: in December 2001 when he came to present the documentary and exhibition on Francisco Granado and Joaquín Delgado, and again in December 2008 for the presentation of his book "Fear of Memory."

We traveled by train from Madrid to participate in the Jerte Days (Badajoz), dedicated to the theme of guerrilla warfare, on March 24 and 25, 2006.

We met in Zaragoza for the presentation of the exhibition "The Death of Liberty. Franco's Repression Against the Libertarian Movement."

The last time we saw each other and were able to embrace was on February 21, 2019, at the Argelès Book Fair, for the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Retirada, the beginning of the Spanish exile in France in 1939.

We feel lucky to have been able to enjoy your company and your intelligent conversation. We will miss you, companion, but we will remember you. You taught us many things.

Thank you, and may the earth be kind to you.

Salvador Seguí Foundation
