(en) France, AL #361 - UCL News - UCL Life: The Summer Days are back for their fifth edition! (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Wed, 6 Aug 2025 07:43:21 +0300

See you in the (hopefully) sunny Aveyron from July 28 to August 2, 2025. ---- We mentioned it in the May issue, and we hope it inspired you to join us in the hamlet of Bécours this summer. With registration now open, it's a chance to take a closer look at this week. ---- Each year, the Summer Days bring together UCL members and supporters from all over France and Belgium, as well as comrades from sister organizations in Germany, Italy, and Spain. It's an opportunity for members of the libertarian communist movement to meet, share their experiences, and learn about the diverse local realities in which we operate.

The Summer Days are also a key time for internationalist exchanges, with UCL's sister organizations regularly participating.
A Revamped Program
To ensure the week runs smoothly, UCL committees and the Summer Days working group have put together a program focused on the themes of anti-imperialism and internationalism. The week will include a series of lectures and workshops to address the struggle against our own imperialism in mainland France and overseas, the fight against militarization, and understanding the global situation, its current challenges, and supporting people fighting against imperialism.

The program is currently being finalized, but we can already announce the participation of Stop Arming Israel, the Ukraine Solidarity Network, Survie, which will offer a lecture on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Imen Habib of the Palestine Media agency. In addition to these external activities, there will be workshops on activist tools, opportunities to share practical experiences, policy development, and training in our own movement. This week will also be an opportunity to practice public speaking or writing articles for the newspaper.

To relax between training sessions and conferences, sports and recreational workshops, as well as evenings for dancing, singing, and having fun are also planned. Compared to previous years, more "off" time has been set aside, allowing for walks to explore the charming surrounding landscapes, or to lie in the sun and chat with friends. A bookstore will also be open.

Daily Self-Management
Summer days are an opportunity to experiment with self-management. Participating in it means taking part in organizing daily life, cooking, cleaning, and tidying up. Several general assemblies, both mixed and single-sex, will punctuate the week to organize community life. Teams will be formed to handle the various tasks to be completed during the week.

Meals will be vegetarian and prepared collectively. If you have a special diet or allergies, you can inform us at the time of registration: adapted meals will be prepared accordingly.

Reception and Accommodation
Accommodation will be mainly in tents. However, an enclosed dormitory will be available for those who need it (must be requested at the time of registration). To ensure that the summer days are accessible to all, children will also be able to enjoy activities organized by group leaders throughout the week.

The children and young people have invested a lot of effort in creating a newspaper during the activities of the 2024 Summer Days.
Bécours is an old hamlet of stone houses renovated by the Éclaireuses et Éclaireurs de France, surrounded by a large field. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact us at jf@communisteslibertaires.org.

How to get there?
Want to participate in the summer days? Are you interested in the program? If you are a UCL member, a subscriber to the Friends of Alternative Libertaire, or a subscriber to the newspaper, the summer days are open to you; spouses, partners, and children are also welcome.

Visit our website to complete the registration form, where you will find rates and can indicate your dietary preferences. A low-cost rate is available, as well as a solidarity rate for those who can help.

Reception will begin Monday, July 28th at 2 p.m.; the days will end on Saturday, August 2nd after lunch. It is possible to come for just a few days during the week. To access the site, carpooling can be organized from Millau or Severac d'Aveyron (Engayresque pass). We hope to see many of you at the Summer Days this summer!
