(en) Czech, Ostravska, OAFed: Ostrava branch of the CAS at the event of the Leftist Club Ostrava (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 4 Jul 2025 09:12:33 +0300

We are reprinting a report from the website of the Czechoslovak Anarchist Association. We are pleased that anarchist literature is spreading beyond our subculture. ---- At the beginning of the week, the Leftist Club Ostrava organized a series of lectures on current topics of the present. On Monday, May 12, the event was also attended by a representative of the Ostrava branch of the Czechoslovak Anarchist Association (CAS), who briefly presented the activities of CAS and the circumstances of its establishment. Then, he introduced Casák, which is published by the Prague group, in particular the thematic issue dedicated to anarchist theory and an issue on anarchy in practice. He also briefly talked about the anti-militaristic magazine Dezertér, the ongoing collection for war deserters, and the actions against the genocide in Gaza. The aforementioned publications were also available at the event.

The individual speakers were inspiring. Professor Frantishek Varadzin spoke about the current decline of American hegemony, in the context of which we will more easily understand the surprising fascism of the USA under the leadership of Donald Trump. He also mentioned the ways in which states have defended themselves against American economic pressure in the past and emphasized the key role of China in the current global economy. Ostrava activist Petr Rohel spoke about the concept of the transnational ruling class according to William Robinson's theory, which draws attention to the ever-sharpening contradictions of global capitalism. Jan Májícek from Socialist Solidarity finally analyzed the current class struggles that are taking place, despite the lack of interest from the domestic media, especially in the USA, where new trade unions are emerging. He emphasized that anti-fascism must not be some kind of lofty moral stance, but a logical requirement of the unity of workers in opposition to the unity of capital. The ensuing debate showed that the topics that can bring the radical left to the forefront may be fascism, climate change, and especially the housing crisis.
