In 2025, the Italian group of the European network "Health is not for 
sale" intends to carry out initiatives on April 5th in various 
locations, taking into account the availability of associations and 
local entities that fight for the right to health and the defense of the 
public national health service and enriching the general themes with the 
objectives of local disputes. These initiatives are part of the European 
day against the commercialization of health that the network organizes 
on the occasion of World Health Day. ---- This year, the theme of the 
relaunch of public health, a point shared by the many initiatives 
carried out and underway, will probably be accompanied by the theme of 
the fight against differentiated autonomy initiatives that see the right 
to health, to be implemented through regional public health services, 
put at further risk with a prospect, among other things, of a further 
increase in health "migrations".

Various factors put universal access to prevention, treatment and 
rehabilitation services at risk. Among the main ones we recall the 
increasingly widespread privatization of services, the defunding of 
public health care which is now also bent to accounting logic (balanced 
budget at the expense of the "production" of health), the reduction of 
social-health personnel, the push to flee operators and workers from the 
most stressful activities (emergency room, territorial medicine, safety 
at work), the abandonment of prevention policies (they do not bring 
profit!) and finally the lack of tools for participation from below in 
health care.

All this increasingly pushes people, now reduced to "customers", to give 
up treatment or to

bear additional costs either directly or through mutual funds and health 
insurance such as the

so-called "corporate welfare" provided for in national employment 
contracts. The lengthening of waiting lists is the greatest visible 
effect; the organizations promoting the initiatives intend to intervene 
collectively on the causes of this.

In Europe, common objectives are the fight against "austerity" policies 
that finance armaments with a progressive increase in funds allocated to 
military spending, limiting investments and funds allocated to 
healthcare and social rights, the creation of a public body for research 
and production of essential medicines, the guarantee of universal rights 
to care, adequate consideration of different cultures, proximity of 
services and defined access times, the fight against commercial excesses 
(starting with the predominance of "big pharma"), grassroots 
participation in healthcare facilities through the participation of 
staff and user representatives. The suffocation of public intervention 
and the increase in military spending in the various states of the 
European Union are the main arguments against the health of the population.
