(en) France, UCL AL #326 - March 8 in struggle, A lot of walkers, too few strikers (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Thu, 19 May 2022 09:28:15 +0300

This year again, several feminist associations (CNDF, CFCV, Family Planning...), trade unions (CGT, FSU, Solidaires) and political organizations (UCL, NPA, EELV, PCF, LFI...) called for a feminist strike to a set of demands specifically concerning women workers. ---- UCL has prepared strongly for this meeting, with a series of 5 videos, public meetings, posters, stickers, leaflets... including a comic strip recalling one of the origins of March 8: the Russian Revolution. ---- The balance of the day is contrasted according to the regions. What generally worked well: the non-mixed night demonstrations, often the day before March 8 (but therefore without strikers). What worked unevenly: general meetings and demonstrations (30,000 in the streets in Paris, 8,000 in Lyon, 5,000 in Toulouse, 1,500 in Montpellier and Bordeaux, 1,000 in Nantes and Lille... ). What worked very little: the strike itself, with very low rates everywhere, whether the organizations did the mobilization work or whether they gave up on it. There is, however, a huge stake in view of what the unionization and work of women represents strategically.
