(en) iwa-ait:Anarchists of Ukraine celebrated the anniversary of Nestor Makhno (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Thu, 18 Nov 2021 07:56:13 +0200

The anniversary of the birth of the legendary Nestor Makhno and, at the same time, the overthrow of the Provisional Government and the government of war in 1917, modern anarchists of Ukraine met in an atmosphere like never before in the memory of living reminiscent of the events of 104 years ago. And the long imperialist war, and the land issue, and the epidemic that is taking away 800 people a day - everything is available. But the most disruptive factor now is the unbearable tariffs for energy resources and the shutdown of enterprises in many respects related to this (which is also in the realities of the end of the First World War). All the more reason was there to recall the anarchist alternative - the struggle for freedom.

On November 7, activists of the anarchist group "Black Banner" in Kiev, Lvov, Dnipro and Odessa held actions dedicated to the birthday of Nestor Makhno. Several campaign raids were carried out with leaflets and stencils, graffiti were painted and black flags were flown.

A statement issued by the Black Banner on the matter says:

"Remembering the history of our liberation movements, we cannot forget about the realities of today, because an idea only makes sense when it can respond to the challenges of our time. And on the birthday of the great ataman, we would most like to remind what Ukraine Makhno fought for. In order not to resort to quotations for a long time, we will answer in a thesis: Makhno fought for a classless Ukraine, for a Ukraine without a lord and a slave, a Ukraine of interaction and mutual assistance, without dividing people by sex or ethnicity and not measuring up to those who are more oppressed, realizing that the working people have an oppressor one, and one enemy.

What kind of Ukraine we see now, we think that it is not worth emphasizing; one can only confidently say that it is the opposite of the ideals to which Makhno strove. And the most unpleasant thing is that the majority of those who call themselves anarchists, and therefore followers of the ideals of the peasant leader, at the moment are more likely to alienate the Ukraine for which Makhno fought than bring it closer.

Summing up, we can say that at the moment our country is ruled by the principal enemies of Nestor Ivanovich. Consequently, the greatest act of honoring him will be a consistent, daily struggle against them.

TOGETHER TILL THE END!"

In Kharkov, the independent activist site "Assembly" for the anniversary posted a special material about the history of the local Darwin street, on which in 1917-1918. hosted the headquarters of the Kharkov anarchists, and about the activities during this period. The publication met with great interest from netizens.
