(en) Poland, ozzip: Webinar: Inflation - the Employee Perspective - Training Movie [machine translation]

Date Wed, 13 Oct 2021 08:43:52 +0300

On Thursday, September 23, the "Inflation - employee perspective" webinar was held on the Facebook profile of the Employee Initiative. Below we present a video of the discussion, an introductory text for the meeting and a presentation in PDF format for download. ---- In August this year. inflation exceeded the level of 5%, which means that we are dealing with the largest price increase in 20 years and also with the highest level of inflation in the entire EU. For employees, this is a real problem - high inflation means that our real wages are falling (for the same money we can buy less and less goods and services). What is worse, there are also voices in the political debate and the media indicating that the increase in wages and social transfers (allowances and benefits from the budget) is responsible for the current price increase. This, in turn, presents trade unions with a dilemma - at first glance - with no solution: either agreeing to stagnation in wages and reductions in social benefits, or a decline in the value of our salaries.

Therefore, we urgently need an employee interpretation of the inflation phenomenon and the development of an action strategy that takes into account the problem of price increases in the economy. This purpose was served by another webinar organized by OZZ Employee Initiative, during which we tried to answer the following questions:
- What exactly is inflation and what are its causes?
- How does inflation affect the situation of various social groups? Who is gaining and who is losing?
- What does the current price increase in Poland result from?
- How does government policy affect the price level in the economy?
- What strategy should the trade union movement adopt against the price increase phenomenon? Maciej Grodzicki

was the guest of the meeting - Assistant professor at the Institute of Economics, Finance and Management of the Jagiellonian University, member of the Employee Initiative Committee at the Jagiellonian University and activist of the Polish Economic Network. The meeting was chaired by Jakub Grzegorczyk from the National Committee of OZZ Employee Initiative
