THEIR DIALOGUE MEANS PRISON

   After the brutal eviction of the squatted cinema in Via Laietana, Barcelona, on october 28th 1996, which was sharply criticized by institutions, political parties and neighborhood associations,  the nightly protest demonstration in the centre of Barcelona caused heavy confrontration between  demonstrators and police forces, resulting dozens of people injured. Police arrested arbitrarily 15  persons who had committed the only crime to be near where the riots took place. Two weeks later, by way of the so called "quick justice", trial against the arrested was opened in order to punish severely the whole squatter movement in public.

   Finally, after one year and a half of trial and appeals, the High Court of Barcelona convicted 10 and acquited 5. Penalties reach from 56 weekends house arrest, 3 sentences of 1 year prision, another of 1 year prision, a 225.000 ptas. (approx. 1500 $ u.s.) or 225 days of prision, and 168.000 ptas. of compensation, and the last one, of Lluis V.G., of 3 years prision. From that moment on, Lluis can be arrested and stay in prision for three years of his life. If this is the kind of dialogue which public prosecuters, Parlament and oficial institutions refer to, we don't want any dialogue.

   We're fed up with their repression, police, judges, public prosecuters and all that shit of evictons of our squats, of hipocritical politicians and their lies envolved in nice talking, of their prisions and their impunity.

  Let's stop all prision sentences!

A la atención de la Sra. Beatriz Grande Pesquero, Magistrada del Penal nº4

La entidad o persona abajo firmante solicita la anulación de la ejecución de la sentencia de catorce de mayo de mil novecientos noventa y ocho dictada por la Sección Décima de la Audiencia de Barcelona, procedimiento abreviado nº452/96, en la cual se ha condenado a 10 personas detenidas durante la manifestación de protesta por el desalojo del Cine Princesa, el 28 de Octubre de 1996.
La ejecución de esta sentencia supondría el ingreso en prisión de Luis Vicente Gil Amores, condenado a tres años de cárcel, lo cual consideramos totalmente desmesurado, inaceptable y contrario a un posible diálogo social.
Ya que hay un Recurso de Amparo Constitucional en trámite, consideramos ue la aplicación de la sentencia sería una medida represiva que imposibilita la busqueda de vías de solución.
