In Northern California, one corporation and one company dominate the
economy. Corporate Raider Charles Hurwitz and his MAXXAM Corp. took over
the Pacific Lumber Co. in the mid-eighties, and ever since have been
ravaging the region's hillsides and forest lands. Last year, a resulting
landslide obliterated eight houses in the tiny town of Stafford. Yet PL
continues to assault the hillside above Stafford with its relentless
industrial logging operations. Julia "Butterfly" Hill and other Earth
First! activists have been defending the town and the forest for over
six months in what is now the longest tree sit in U.S. history. Since
December, 1997, Julia has remained 180 feet aloft in one of the
hillside's majestic ancient redwood trees, which has been named Luna.
Julia has not yet set foot on the ground in 1998.

LUNA VIDEO ROAD SHOW

May -June '98

*Headwaters Action Video Collective - HAVC (pronounced havoc) is looking
for help from activists and student groups, to sponsor and arrange dates
and locations for large screen video showings of "Luna - the Stafford
Giant Tree-sit" - the new 20-minute hit video about Julia "Butterfly"
Hill's amazing treetop vigil. We hope to show it to as many people as
possible, as soon as possible. Our first focus is colleges and schools
before summer break. If anyone or any group out there can help
arrange/book dates, times, locations, we will send out flyer masters
(with blank space for date, time & location) a courtesy copy of the
video and additional info as needed. We will have our own video
projector with us on the road from May through June, but we need venues
with large screens or large white walls. Any size venue from 20 - 500 is
okay with us. We will ask for $3-7 (sliding scale) donation at the door
to help pay for the production of an upcoming feature documentary on
Headwaters and the ongoing struggle to save ancient redwoods.
