VOTTEM: 'CENTRE CLOSED BECAUSE OCCUPIED'
         Future closed centre for political asylum candidates occupied
         Friday, may, 8th since 04h

Not having the 'right' papers in your pocket is not a crime. To refuse, 
arbitrarely imprison, and expulse by force human beings, men, women and 
children, because they don't have, is!

That's why, this Friday May 8th at 4 in the morning, some dozens of 
citizens, "conscious and responsable" as they define themselves, supported 
from the outside by hundreds of others, have illegaly penetrated and locked 
themselves in in the future buildings of the 'Office of Foreigners' which 
will be opened soon here in Vottem. Right response to what has, very 
officially, become convenient to call "closed centres for illegals". 

With this symbolic and non-violent occupation, the new residents want to 
express their solidarity with all their brothers and sisters whom the 
political and economical system denies the right to live in dignity. We also 
want to reaffirm our unconditional and non-negotiable refusal of a 
discriminatory repression, degrading and inhuman, that expulses thousands 
(the minister of Interiors announced the number of 15.000 expulsions per 
year) of human beings whose only crime is not having  papers "en règle" and 
being, for the states that accompanie them, as undesirable as useless and 
unexploitable.

illegals" in Vottem and declares its solidarity with those who entered it 
illegaly.

- Reaffirms with them that the human right - that is the right to live and 
to be respected as a person , for all human beings, man, woman, child born 
on this earth - is opposed to the very existence itself of these camps for 
foreigners


- Reminds that there are principles which are not negotiable and that in 
certain circumstances, disobedience is not a crime but a moral obligation.
