SURPRISE ARREST OF ACTIVISTS WED. A.M.
Wednesday February 18, 10pm =20
TO ALL ACTIVISTS
TO ALL COMMUNITY GROUPS AND POPULAR ORGANIZATIONS
TO ALL GROUPS DEFENDING CIVIL RIGHTS
TO ALL MEDIA
We learned late today that several activists were arrested, apparently
without warrants, by the Montreal police.
Among these persons are Patrick Borden, Yves Manseau and Dee Lecomte. They
are active in the Defense committee of the 108 arrested on Dec 3 (Hotel
Queen-Elizabeth action). Alexandre Popovic is also a target of this police
action, though he apparently was not arrested this morning. The police are
on the lookout for him (^=D3avis de recherche^=D4), and his whereabouts
remain
unknown.
=20
At this late hour, we can confirm that at least one of the activists is
still behind bars, though the others also remain unreachable. We assume
they are also still in prison. Their ability to communicate with those
outside has for some reason been severely restricted.
Among possible accusations are assault, mischief, conspiracy (complot),
uttering death threats, intimidation. These arrests may be linked to events
that took place February 5th, at the municipal courthouse, when hearings
for the Dec 3 activists began.
One of the accused, Dee Lecomte, is to appear in Montreal^=D2s Provincial
court (Palais de Justice) at 2:30 pm in room 307.
At this hour, it has not been confirmed if some of the accused or arrested
are to appear in municipal court, in the morning (usually 9:30am)
Updates on information will be posted as they become available.
