                BOMB FACTORY LINKED TO NEO-NAZIS

     JENA, Germany (AP) -- Police have discovered a small bomb
factory linked to neo-Nazis in the eastern German city of Jena
and are searching for three fugitives.
   
     Word of the raid in Thuringia state followed announcements
this week by two other German states of major crackdowns on
neo-Nazi groups.
   
     Extreme-rightist crime throughout Germany increased last
year, officials say, following a steady decline over the previous
several years. The latest rise is blamed partly on frustration
with Germany's record postwar unemployment, especially acute in
the eastern part of the nation.
   
     Homemade bombs and TNT were found in one of several
apartments and garages in Jena raided on Jan. 26, Thuringia state
prosecutors said Thursday on condition of anonymity.
   
     The three suspects, whose names were not released, are
believed linked to a swastika-emblazoned suitcase with explosives
that was left in front of the Jena Theater on Sept. 2. The
explosives were live, but the detonator was a dud, prosecutors
said.
   
     Investigators did not want to publicize the raid until the
three suspects were caught, but prosecutors confirmed some
details Thursday after a radio report on the sweep.
