PHILADELPHIA SIGNS ON TO THE CALL FOR A BLACK RADICAL CONGRESS

Philadelphia, PA -- On February, 17, 1998 at 7:30pm in the
Temple University Women's Studies Lounge (8th Floor, Anderson
Hall, at the intersection of 12th and Berks), Philadelphians
endorsing the call for a Black Radical Congress (BRC) will
convene our first official meeting. The meeting is a call to all
students, community and religious leaders, workers, trade
unionists, professors, artists, cultural workers, the unemployed
and the underemployed, veterans, and everyone else ready to fight
in the best traditions of Black Radicalism.

The purpose of the BRC is to bring together those opposed to
capitalist exploitation with its devastating effects on our
people and communities and move us into united action.
Unemployment, poverty wages, inadequate housing, crumbling,
underfunded schools, racism, sexism, police brutality, a CIA-
sponsored crack cocaine epidemic, homelessness, and poverty are
what capitalism has to offer a vast majority of Black people. The
Black Radical Congress is the way to fight back.

The BRC will call for free health care for all, the right to
a job at a living wage, affordable quality housing as a basic
human right, free education from daycare through college,
civilian review boards with prosecutorial powers, and the right
to live in a society free from racism, chauvinism, or any form of
discrimination.

Those answering the call will begin an outreach and
mobilization for a bus caravan to first session of the Black
Radical Congress, which will convene in Chicago, IL, June 19-21,
1998. The Black Radical Congress promises to be a historic
formation in the life of our people and our country. Please come
and contribute.
