Heya,

Please note that the protest against political intimidation will now be on

	           Saturday, *February 21*
		          12:30 p.m.
		Thornton Park (Main & Terminal)
			  Vancouver
		     Everyone is welcome!

This has been changed due to the Native Memorial Vigil and the 7th Annual
Memorial March to honour Downtown Eastside women who have died of violence,
both taking place on February 14.

If you do not live in Vancouver but would like to organize a
solidarity action elsewhere please get in touch with us (see bottom of
e-mail for contact addresses).

Last fall police systematically strip-searched the women arrested for
protesting APEC, not the men. We believe this was done with the
purpose of intimidating women from political action. There is a long
history and many incidents of police intimidation of groups and
individuals who voice their beliefs in Canada as well as all over the
world. This is exemplified by the actions of the police in Vancouver's
  downtown eastside.

In solidarity with the women who were stripsearched for opposing APEC
in November, and all others who have experienced political
intimidation, WO-PIG! (Women Oppose Political Intimi dation Group) is
organizing a gathering to acknowledge political intimidation by the
police of all those who speak out against the system, and to show that
we will not be silenced by these tactics.

The event will include speakers from various communities, theatre and
music. These will be followed by a journey to the pre-trial centre at
Main & Powell where there will be some more theatre and an action.

Rides from Thornton Park to the pre-trial centre available.
			Childcare available.

The skit, entitled "What's Up Your Ass?" is now complete. If you'd like to
be a part of it (there are many fine roles), there's a meeting on:

 			  Tuesday, February 10
			     7:30 p.m.
			 Spartacus Bookstore
		   (311 West Hasting, at Cambie)

C.D. anyone? If you'd like to partake or talk about it, there will be a
meeting at 6:30 pm at the Ovaltine (on Hastings East of Main St.) on
Thurdsay Feb.5.

The next planning meetings will be on:

Thursday, Feb 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 17
			      6:30 pm
			Spartacus Bookstore
		   (311 West Hastings, at Cambie)
(we'd like to keep the planning meetings for women only.
everybody is welcome to any of the other meetings though!)

(Look for WO-PIG flyers at the conference on the lawsuit at the museum of
anthropology (6393 NW Marine Drive), Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998 10:45 AM - 1:00
PM.)
