The Finnish ALF SG`s statement 3.2.1998:
The person on hungerstrike demands the dogs to be released
On Monday 2.2. a couple from Mantyharju was imprisoned in Mikkeli
district court on suspicion of taking to homecare two beagles liberated
from the Karttula researchanimal center of Kuopio University. The Animal
Liberation Front activists liberated 4 dogs from there last September.
The dogs taken away from Eija and Ari Ripatti have been returned to
Karttula, where they will be sold to animal experiments. A big part of
these experiments are so-called first-class experiments, which means
that they are extremely painful.
The trial in Mikkeli was held with closed doors and all the documents
have been declared secret. Eija Ripatti`s helper, Kirsti Tarvainen, has
been put under a denial of expression. Thinking about the quality of the
matter, this is an unreasonably harsh action. It is obvious that the
imprisoning was set to put pressure.
Eija Ripatti has started a hungerstrike. She demands that the dogs
should be returned to home care because they have already been in good
care for several months in a loving and caring home. Now that the dogs
have gotten used to their new life, the return to the researchanimal
center is a cruel destiny. With her hungerstrike Ripatti is also
protesting against the unreasonable actions the Ripattis were dealt
with.
The ALFSG demands that their demands will be heard. The destiny of a
researchanimal is good to no one, but it`s even worse to a beloved
friend.
